Erin creates inclusive communities, brings joy to others, lives intentionally and showers the world in kindness.
“I love connecting with people. It may embarrass my teenagers, but I often greet strangers, talk to fellow shoppers in the grocery story, compliment people walking by and hand out peanut butter crackers to the person holding a sign on the corner.
I have spent much time rethinking celebrations and how we spend quality time with loved ones. We have celebrated an alternative Christmas for over a decade and this day of quality time together is anticipated by many. I enjoy gathering friends and neighbors whether it be hosting potlucks, storytelling evenings, cooking parties, craft nights or pancake breakfasts.
I believe gratitude is the secret to happiness and I take the time to make sure people in my life know how grateful I am for their support, encouragement and friendship.”
After leaving the corporate world to raise and homeschool her children, Erin discovered the positive energy in community. With a natural inclination to coordination, cooperation and collaboration, she organizes events and activities and watches communities emerge. Realizing at an early age the need to give back to the community, Erin has had a variety of service experiences from organizing a painting party at a local soup kitchen for her husband’s 40th birthday to coordinating a community garden that stocked a food pantry. She has coordinated a children’s choir, a family book group and junior Toastmaster’s group. She enjoys volunteering in the community especially in programs that advocate for inclusive community, non-violence, social justice and open adoption.
Erin is happily married to Dave Schmidt and has two teenagers, Lucy & Oscar. She loves thrifting, playing board games and bringing joy to others.
