Stitching our Stories Together

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way -- things I had no words for.

Georgia O'Keeffe

creating an expression of Our pandemic experience
and our hope for the future

The Corona Quilt is a quilt made of squares created by people from around the world. Each square is created as an expression of your personal experience with the COVID-19 pandemic or your dream for the world and our future.

It is a collective, tangible voice of disruption and hope, loss and possibility, grief and new beginnings. We invite you to give meaning to your experience and join your voice with others by creating your own square, today.

The old threads are unraveling,

Get your needles ready.

We are stitching a new quilt

Of humanity.

– Julia Myers

Healing, Inspiration, Belonging, Action

The Corona Quilt is an individual and collective journey of expressing ourselves through our hands, a gathering place for our personal stories, linking us together in healing, inspiration, belonging and action.

We connect the word Corona to the Sanskrit word Karuna – meaning compassion – seeing the current crisis as an opportunity to step into more compassion and healing.

Whatever your experience is – hope, clarity, connection, grief, fear, overwhelm, or loneliness, – we invite you to add your voice to the Corona Quilt.

No Experience Needed!

You don’t have to know how to sew or do crafts to participate! We welcome drawings, collages, quilts, made with fabric, paint, paper, or found objects. Anything made by hand is perfect. Recycle your old clothes, or gather from your environment.

We invite participation from young and old, from anywhere on the planet.

A New Vision

The AIDS Quilt, started in 1987,  made visible and tangible the loss of millions of lives, shifting the consciousness of the scale of the HIV/AIDs crisis and making the statistics personal.

The Corona Quilt makes the impact of the virus more visible and tangible for us all. We see the many losses, as well as the hopes we hold for the future of people and our planet. We are creating a new vision of how we want to live together on this earth.

How To Participate

You Have Two Options:

  • You can make a physical quilt square, and mail it to us.  These pieces should be 15″x 15″ (38cm X 38cm) squares of a cloth base so we can stitch the together. Get started by clicking on the “Sign Up Here” button below.
  • You can create a virtual quilt square, by taking a square picture of a physical square you have made using any media.  Being virtual, a cloth base is not necessary (no selfies or videos please).  When you are ready, upload your image using the “Start the Upload” button below.

Download the full instructions for How to Participate by selecting your language from the menu below:

We are in the process of translating this instruction sheet into over a dozen languages. If you are interested in helping us with translations, you can sign up to volunteer here.

Submit Your Virtual Quilt Square

*Due to the nature of this project, it is important that we share these creations as a means of “finding a common thread” that runs through each of us. Our hope is that by viewing the pieces created by people from around the world, we will be able to better process and understand our experience of this pandemic. As such, by submitting a quilt square you give Kellogg Sisters permission to publicly share your work. We will never share or sell your contact information to any outside entity.*
